Why I decided to start filming weddings

What started with me renting out a camera from my university (because it was free), I'm now building my own wedding videography business, and I'm loving every second of it.

One hundred miles away down in Cambridgeshire was the destination for my first ever wedding video shoot. Me and my partner at the time offered them a photography and videography deal for £100. The best part is that, after the train ride home, and a quick trip to Tesco for the essentials, that £100 had already been spent.

Regardless of the financial aspect, what I had learned on that one shoot was invaluable to me. As a student filmmaker with, let's face it, limited experience at the time, filming an event such as a wedding where there are no second chances to capture those important moments was a challenge that I was adamant of achieving.

However, the reaction of this particular video made all of the time and effort spent on it completely worth it. I loved the idea that I had made a video all by myself and that a family of three at the time were going to cherish for a long time.

“The boys have become obsessed with our wedding video .... you've caught all the little moments that are precious."

Gradually, I was receiving more and more enquiries - mostly from people who knew that I was studying a media-related course. And I said yes to them. Not only was I thankful for them giving me the opportunity to build my portfolio, but also grateful that they're trusting me to capture one of their most important days of their lives.

With that motivation behind me, I tried my best on every wedding video that I created, to create a video that each couple loves, and I was lucky enough to receive the similar feedback as my first ever customer.

To this day, that motivation is still there! Whether it's a venue I've always wanted to film at, whether the wedding is a truly unique theme, or even if I've just treated myself to a new camera lens which I really want to try out, I want all couples to trust that I will make them a video that themselves, and those around them, think 'Wow'.

“I'm not just saying it, but it did totally blow me away... just captured everything so perfectly."
